BIG TREE LIN KEE

I seldom venture into Cheras area (or other places not familiar to me that requires driving) for food unless someone volunteer to take me there. And fortunately, I am lucky to have a bunch of friends who are willing to drive me to the destination and send me home.

I heard so much about the infamous steam fish in Chan Sow Lin from my former bosses and colleagues coupled with positive feedback featured in some articles/media. I shared this story with few friends and we ended up with a lunch date in their Taman Connaught branch.

Tucked inside a residential area, there is a security guard at the entrance who will open the gate to all visitors.

Look out for this signage… a double storey house belongs to the owner

After 5 mins walk, you’ll see this hut under a big tree
part of the open kitchen..
we sat facing this humble kitchen and got the chance to watch the cooks preparing and whipping out dishes while waiting for our food to arrive.

My friend did the food ordering for the four of us. No pain or sweat waiting for the food which was served to us within 20 minutes.

Steamed Carp Fish Head with Ginger+garlic sauce (Big)
Came in a big portion, flooded with pounded fresh ginger+garlic sauce on top with a layer of light soy sauce at the base, both flavours enhance & balance up taste of the fresh and juicy fish head.

When eating fish head, I particularly enjoy the smooth & soft ‘cheek’ that contains lot of collagen + giant chunks of meat inside. Add cut chili padi + chopped garlic for more kick.

Steamed Carp Fish Head with Tau Cheong/Bean Paste Sauce (small)
Harmonious blend of mild sweet, not high in salt yet spicy sauce justified with a plate of white rice. Be very careful with bones inside this fish.

Black Vinegar Pork Trotter
Well braised tender & moist cut trotters in a thick soy sauce, giving it sweet & sourish taste but lack of gingery aroma. May be not much or no young ginger is used in making this pot of gem! Young ginger can gives you another level of inexplicable fragrance.

This is another dish I like especially the back feet with hidden thick collagen and smooth texture to chew.

Besides steam fish which is the best seller here, there are other dishes available too.

My friend’s buddy forked the total bill of RM75 including a plate of fried vegetables and a pot of hot ‘pu eer’ tea.
