HAINAMKO CHICKEN RICE

We were walking along Jalan Bendahara, Melaka and suddenly came the urge of having light meal before our lunch. As we walked further down the street,  we saw Hainamko Restaurant tucked in between a row of shop. Quickly, we went in and settled down with a set of steamed chicken + rice.

There are two types of chicken available here i.e free range and normal and both are either steamed or roasted. I opted for normal steamed chicken which are tender and soft and importantly without any blood on the meat. Drown it with fragrant soy sauce to make it more tantalizing. Both the chilies and ginger sauce is so memorable...truly authentic!

This bowl of chicken rice is not enough for us but we have to reserve some space for lunch. Non oily/sticky but aromatic enough.

Being a Halal eatery, all the workers are Malay except the chef who is a Chinese convert.

RM7.40 including a glass of sky juice (60 cents...pricey)

BEI ZHAN RESTAURANT

Upon entering this two storey white building, I was amazed with the colorful dragon decorations in every corner of this restaurant. This is a Dragon Year and the animal signifies wisdom and power.

Beautiful Red Dragons
'Lively' fishes

This is our first time having dinner here eventhough we passed by this eatery many many times. Since my sister and friend are not a fan of'yee sang', we opted for few dishes with a plate of fried noodles.
Bei Zhan Fried Royal Noodle (RM10++)
We were not awe at all with this plate of fried mi sua/longevity noodles. Lack in taste and noodles was soggy.
Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet (RM22++)
Each pieces of garoupa fillet was fresh + juicy while the sweet + sour gravy perfected this palate
Fried Black Pepper Ostrich (RM15++)
Very fragrant and peppery smell but unfortunately the meat was hard to chew
Grated Oat Crispy Fried Baby Crab (RM18++)
We didn't really enjoy this cos' there were more cereals than crab

Fried Prawns with Macadamia Nut (RM22++)
You get what you see...
Lightly stir fried crunchy prawns + capsicums and nuts

1 pot of Chinese Tea Pu Er (RM7.50++)

IKAN BAKAR PARAMESWARA IN UMBAI, MELAKA

I have always wanted to make a trip to Umbai and try the ikan bakar and  seafood but each time this plan was put aside or postponed simply because there is no more space in our tummies after a heavy food trail. So, this time,  I make sure this trip is materialize despite feeling full after an early dinner.

After alighted from our car, we walked around and noticed there were few stalls selling dried food stuff and lots of seafood restaurants with no sight of customers at all. As we walked further inside, we saw a crowd in Ikan Bakar Parameswara which is nearby the river. Our instinct immediately tell us, good food is here BUT... read on to know more.

eye catching menu & number stands
assorted fresh (not so fresh) seafood and greens....
expensive price tag
plates of fresh cockles

fresh squids

BBQ cockles...

sauces for dipping
both the sambal chillies + dark soya sauce.. good combo of sweet, sour + spicy

Fish Otak-Otak (0.70 cents each)
While waiting for our order to arrive, this basket of hot grilled fish otak-otak  was placed on our table. My mom lamented it tasted sweet, bland and without any fish meat. We couldn't agree more!

Nasi Lemak Bungkus (RM1.20 per pack)
We saw this basket of packet nasi lemak on an empty table next to us. I took a packet, unwrapped it and put a spoon of rice + sambal into my mouth. Totally upset. Not only the rice was tad plain but there is no flavour at all except spiceness in the sambal.  My mom gave a nod.

Fried Squid Rings (RM18)
Earlier, my mom had picked a medium size fresh squid (RM18) from the ice box and was recommended to try this dish. My friend who are not a fussy eater commented that the squid is tough and not chewy at all. All of us smile and gave him a thumb up.
BBQ Cockles (RM6)
well cooked and I like it but others prefer half cook with blood

Asam Pedas Cencaru (RM4.80)
Unlike Penang Asam Pedas , you can't find bunga kantan and other fresh herbs in this staple. Surprisingly, the gravy is fragrant and thick and helps me to clean up my packet of nasi lemak.

Overall, we were not satisfied with the food here except the asam pedas.

next....umbai at nite

RESTORAN STRAITS SETTLEMENT, MELAKA

Located inside Portugese Settlement, Restoran Straits Settlement is one of the famous seafood eatery you can find here.

The rain had stopped when we reached there for dinner. Only three empty tables left and we chose to sit facing the stage. We were hoping to watch performance while dining at the same time but luck was not with us on that night.

It took quite awhile for the waitress to give us the menu and also serve food. Judging from the crowd, obviously they have insufficient manpower i.e only 2 male & 1 female staff available to take and serve your order.
In the mood...for a drink (RM8.50)
Fried Omelette (RM3)
Just plain and ordinary...my sista choice
Fried Spicy Chicken Wing (RM2 each)
Mild spicy but meat was dried and not evenly cooked.
I returned the 'bloody' piece for another round of frying and within 5 minutes, it was placed back on my table.
Fried Butter Garlic Prawns (RM20)
Juicy and sweet without any hint of garlic or butter except tasty light soya sauce
Fried Squid (RM10)
Coated with crunchy batter and perfectly fried while retaining the moist. We wipe cleaned this fast
Baked Siakap with Chillies Sambal (RM28)
My mom dislike the unflavourful sambal eventhough the fish meat was fresh. I certainly have to agree with her evident with the leftover .

We were partaking our meal when suddenly a heavy downpour came splashing at us including other customers. We had to quickly grab our food and relocate to eat inside the restaurant which is meant for their kitchen operation. What a day!

NADEJE CAFE- FAMOUS MILLE CREPE

Located at the rooftop of the Dataran Pahlawan in Melaka, you can find the best crepe in this cosy cafe.

After reading several review from blogs, my immediate order over the counter was it's infamous original crepe. Feeling disappointed as was not available (sold off) ,  I picked other alternative i.e Chocolate Crepe @ RM9++.

This French cake is made with 'thousand' layer of crepe staked together and cream are applied on each layers!  The crepe is soft in texture and  chocolate cream is smooth with acceptable 'sugar level'.  I am looking forward to try other flavors in my future trip.

Rum and Raisin Smoothies (RM8.50++)
recommendation from the waiter but its too sweet for my liking

AUNTY FATSO

We finally found a restaurant that serves authentic Baba & Nyonya cuisine and worth the amount of  money we paid... really cheap! Situated opposite Melaka Raya and  behind few row of shoplots,  we spotted this eatery while searching for late breakfast within that area.  Luckily, only few tables was occupied when we arrived. By the time we finished our lunch  at about 1230 noon , it was crowded and few patrons with their family was seen waiting for their table.

Cool windy air make this dining an enjoyable experience, without any sweat!

This man is the one who prepare and cook all the delish food for its partons.. eventhough with handful of orders,  you still get satisfaction from the quality and quantity on each dishes.
Mixed 'Chee Chap'/ Pork Innards Soup
All of us luv this soup which is sourish and pepperish enough. Not forgetting soft and chewable pork intestines, belly, liver and mushroom
Chicken Herbal Soup
Unlike Pork Innards Soup, it is not as tasty and flavoful.
Tom Yam Seafood
Within 2o minutes, we finished this whole plate of succulent dish and ordered another serving.
Home cooked fragrant chilies paste was poured on top of boiled scrumptious and fresh seafood.. 7 medium size fresh prawns, 2 pieces of fillet fish and cut squid rings
Crunchy Stir Fried Lettuce
Pork Vinegar
Infused by the smell of vinegar (instead of ginger) though I managed to find few pieces of ginger, this hot piping dish was filled with tender meat and big chunk of collagen.

With four plates of rice + 2 ice coffee + 2 ice herbal drink, total bill was RM75 only.

JALAN JALAN CARI MAKAN - 2ND STOP IN MELAKA

2ND STOP @ MELAKA -
MOM'S B'DAY DINNER

It was my plan to celebrate a low profile but yet sumptuous dinner with my mom in  Restaurant Pei Zing which is located in Melaka Raya. I had attended a relative  wedding lunch here  years back and found the food was good and affordable.

Starter... Mixed Combo Cold Dish
fried rolled fish paste, stir fried asparagus + sea asparagus+ green peas + carrot, steamed wanton and thai salad topped with salmon flakes
Shark's Fin Soup
flavorful + thick texture with handful of crab meat + shark's fin...add a dash of black vinegar to
give it more kick
Claypot Mixed Seafood
fresh and juicy scallops, mushrooms, crunchy fish maws + sea cucumber
Assam Pedas Ikan Merah
tender meat with perfect combination of  sweet + sour+ spicy gravy
Pork Knuckle
simply sensation....crispy texture with lots of collagen

Total bill came to RM173 only including three bowl of white rice and refillable hot tea.  We were extremely full and left no space for dessert.

But what is a birthday without a birthday cake? To complete this occasion, I bought a piece of ice cream cake from Baskin Robbin and shared among three of us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU MOM!

Stay tuned...Seremban

JALAN JALAN CARI MAKAN - MUAR-MELAKA-SEREMBAN-KAJANG

090711 was a historical day for me ..... first time  food hunting from Muar to Kajang without using GPS but armed with printed google maps , useful highway + road signboard and own sense of direction...which also coincides with my mother's birthday and also not forgetting Bersih Rally in Kuala Lumpur.

We braved ourselves by driving from Kuala Lumpur in the middle of the night and had a good rest at Ayer Keroh highway before proceeded to Muar in the next morning. From time to time, we also asked for direction from passerby at the traffic light junction.

1ST STOP- MUAR
We reached Muar town at about 5am with dark gloomy sky and only few cars were seen on the road.

For breakfast till lunch, we had:-
1) a plate of fragrant nasi lemak + curry chicken and a glass of ice 'kopi o' = RM5.50 (forgotten to  capture photo).

2) set of chicken rice ball + roast chicken and a packet of normal chicken rice + roast chicken @ RM3 per packet.  Both tasted just normal.

4) Teow chew rice kuih @ RM1 per piece... both were equivalent yummy
