POON KEE DESSERT


After a simple lunch in a coffee shop, my dining companion and I walked around looking for dessert and Poon Kee caught our attention.  I didn't know that restaurant has been operating for the past 50 years..only after I googled for more information. 

Inside the air conditioned restaurant, 1 table taken up by a couple. A foreign waiter gave us an eye catching & colorful menu and it was easy preasy to choose what suit our tastebuds. 


2 sweet soup & 1 savoury snack
A combo of soft soya beancurd, peanut paste soup and black sesame paste soup ...
both peanut & black sesame texture thick & aromatic


Pumpkin soup & a dollop of vanilla ice cream
 smooth with a balance of sweetness including the ice cream
Fried Spring Roll
turnips filling tad too dry and oily popiah skin

 was happy given an opportunity to indulge this precious cake
....QPC even gave me a cup to take home..BIG SMILE

KAYA PUFF, SWISS ROLL & EGG TART

I always notice this aunty selling cakes & tarts in her little push cart at a small alley along Jalan Yap Ah Loy (the last photo gives you an idea on how to get here). For those who usually wait for bus/taxi at a bus stop across the road, you can watch her sleeping (seated) when there is no customer especially in the morning.

For someone who don't really fancy sweet stuff, my curiosity makes me walked towards the cart (while waiting for bus to arrive) and got myself 3 pieces of different cake & tart from her.

She was happy that I snapped photos here & there

Glutinous Rice Balls with Black Sesame and Peanut Toppings
With a combination of  black sesame powder, glutinous rice flour and water, gives the dough balls a  pleasantly gummy and chewy texture.  Mess it up with the grounded black sesame and peanut  for unforgettable eating experience

Curry Fish Balls
Overdosed with delectable desserts, it was a good ending with something spicy and savoury. I was awe with the curry sauce...pungent, fragrant and fresh and complement well with the bouncy fish balls.

T- BREAK CAFE

Coincide with the cafe name, every day a 50% discount is given on any purchase during tea break.  We got ourselves three pieces of cakes with different flavor and cut into three equal portion for the three of us. RM11.50 for decent desserts.


Carrot Cake
This cake is flavorful, moist and not too sweet.
Filled with crunchy pecans, grated carrots and frosted with delish cream cheese. Not forgetting strong smell of cinnamon.

Marble Cheese Cake 
Its a feast made for both the eyes and the palate. Rich with fresh cream cheese, soft yet fluffy.

Chocolate Brownies
Firm on the outside but tad too dried inner. Top with generous amount of cut macadamia nuts and drizzled with icing sugar.


3 flavours of cake & a cup of hot G7 coffee...complete the day!

CITIBANK REWARD.....

If you are a citibank card holder, you can enjoy a nice meal from The Coffee Bean without even having to pay provided you have sufficient points to redeem. 

Every 200 reward point is equivalent to RM1. Any excess amount (not enough of point) will be charged to your credit card. So make sure, you look at the menu and price before you place your order so that you don't have pay a single sen..just like what I did!

Instead of eating in the outlet, I took away for my three days breakfast :-

1 Scone - day 1
comes together with a piece of butter and strawberry jam.
~soft and buttery, tasted almost the same like the one I had in Cameron Highland. digest it with a hot cup of nescafe~
1 Chicken New York Pie - day 2
~oh may, it's long in size, so fluffy with nice smells of minced herbs chicken meat. chilling hot milo helps to complete this piece of pie~
Triple Decker Cake - day 3
trio flavors of  cream cheese, mocha + oreo
~awesome cos I get to eat three different type of cream in a piece of cake. quenched with a cup of green tea~

HEALTHY SWEET DESSERT


While window shopping in Bandar Utama recently, we chance upon this little shop housed inside Excellent Herbal Food Centre, fame for selling local and imported chinese herbs and delicacies.  The menu was simply written in Chinese and English.  Besides selling nutritious sweet dessert such as bird nest, snow jelly and etc, you can also savour abalone in various cooking method and fried rice or porridge cooked with Japanese scallop and oyster.



Each dessert was served in a white ceramic bowl
 
DOUBLE BOILED SNOW JELLY WITH COCONUT MILK AND GINGKO (RM12++) 
'AVAILABLE ON SAT & SUN ONLY'
The coconut milk was indeed fresh with lots of soft bubbly snow jelly floating on top. But I prefer my gingko to be softer instead of crunchy. Worth trying it.
BENEFITS OF SNOW JELLY
literally known as Hashima, Suet Kap, Winter Frog or cheaper version of bird nest. It is high in collagen and thus helps in beautifying the skin. Other benefits are boost immune system, improves body stamina and resistance, anti aging, regulate hormon balance and etc.
BENEFITS OF GINGKO
also known as Gingko Biloba (tablet supplement) and great assistant for brain i.e improving memory, mind booster, concentration, alertness, mood and focus.

DOUBLE BOILED WHITE FUNGUS WITH AMERICAN GINSENG AND WHITE LOTUS SEED (RM6++)
Instead of American Ginseng, the smell of red dates was strong and overpowered this bowl of concoction. I find the translucent white fungus soft enough and white lotus seed well cooked. Not my fave!

ANOTHER DURIAN TREAT!

If you have read my previous blog on Durian Indulgence , I couldn't get enough of the king of all fruits that I revisited Sweet Chat and tried Durian Affinity which is certainly bigger in portion!



Same presentation in a long platter with 3 different types of dessert of my choice + a dollop of durian puree in each bowl

Bubur Cha Cha with Durian
Creamy coconut milk consisting of a medley of sweet potatoes, taro and sago + a scope of durian puree
...coconut milk not so fresh and without any hint of pandan leaves...
Durian Cendol
....king of fruits overpowered this bowl of concoction filled with coconut milk ...and I simply can't have enough of it...
Grass Jelly with Vanilla Ice Cream and Durian
When mix together the two dollops of icy cream + puree in a sea of coconut milk, scope a spoonful of this unique dessert with cut soft jelly, put it into your mouth and you'll be tantalized.

DURIAN INDULGENCE


I love king of fruits....DURIAN.....
I enjoy eating it (either fresh or processed) and love the aromatic smell and rich creamy taste.

After dinner and while lazying inside Berjaya Times Square, Sweet Chat caught our immediate attention.  We went to the outlet entrance, browsed at the menu and opted Durian Indulgence from one of the two durian samplers.

In a long shape platter with neat presentation was 3 kind of desserts made of king of fruits i.e. Durian Pancake, Durian Ice Cream and a Scone with durian cream.

I particularly like the cold Durian Pancake which was delectable and creamy wrapped by soft skin of pancake while the warm savory scone went well with the durian cream.

LIGHT & EASY LUNCH @ JALAN PUDU

It was my friend suggestion to have light yet fulfilling lunch as the weather was terribly hot. As soon as we stepped into the shop located behind a church at Jalan Pudu, several signboard displaying the menu captured my attention. Ranging from various types of sweet soup, kuih and noodles at affordable cheap price tag .





I was salivating when looking and choosing the arrays of mouth watering kuih, I ended up ordering 3 types of kuih, 1 bowl of sweet soup and a bowl of curry noodles while my friend settled for a bowl of soup noodles.

Dry Curry Mee...gravy was thicked & spicy enough

Fish Balls Koay Teow Soup...bouncy and fresh fish balls


Glutinous Rice Balls with Black Sesame Fillings ....soup cooked using fresh ginger


Savoury cake

I have forgotten the exact amount we paid but I guess it was about RM15 or less.
