QQ SNOWMIX

After spending almost three hours of shopping spree inside a ladies’ boutique, we were poorer by RM600 but it was a well spent bargain on discounted branded clothes.

The weather was indeed hot and humid.  Thirsty and sweating as we were walking towards the car park , we wanted something icy and cool to sooth us down. As soon as we saw QQ Snowmix , we just went inside without a second thought.

At the counter, an orange colour signboard indicating ‘free 1 Taiwan Sweet Potato Stick for spending over RM10’ caught our eyes. We set for this deal together with dessert of two  different flavours…yam for me and soy bean for her!

Within 10 minutes, two huge bowls of colorful dessert and a plate of freshly fried potatoes stick arrived at our table.

small porcelain jug
..filled with sweet syrup..

Taro Ice + QQ Taro + Black Creamer (RM6.90 nett)
… I was awed away with the original taste of yam used in making the taro ice and cubes of taro made from flour + yam paste ...

Soya Ice + QQ Taro + Black Creamer (RM6.90 nett)
… my friend claims that this is the best soya ice she’d ever savoured.. incredibly authentic & with low sugar level! I do agree…

The hot fries was tad too sweet and hence we dipped with hot chilly sauce (upon request) and it turned out awesome… spicy enough  and blend well with our sweet icy desserts.

TONG PAK FU - 5 STAR DESSERTS (COLD & WARM)

Nowadays the weather is scorching hot and is unbearable most of the times particulary during the day. One of the many ways to sooth your throat and quench your thirst is by enjoying something icy without burning a hole in your wallet.  Yup, you can enjoy 5 star desserts now at Tong Pak Fu, an award winning dessert house originates from Hong Kong. Currently, there are five outlets in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur.  The latest outlet is located inside Paradigm Mall where few of us were invited to a food tasting session recently.

Tong Pak Fu serves great selection of both hot and cold dessert  but their popular speciality has got to be their Snow Ice which is a shaved ice with delectable fruity flavours. Using high tech water filters and freshly squeezed juices to make real fruit-flavored ice blocks  without adding artificial colours or flavours.

Brand new outlet in Paradigm Mall, Kelana Jaya

Mango Snow Ice
Using imported mangoes from Philippines, this soft snowflakes boast intense and sweet fragrance. Best eaten with chewy grass jelly,  mango pearls and mango cubes. The level of sugar suits my tastebud.
Guava Snow Ice
You'll be enticed with the aroma of sweet and juicy pink guavas. Not overly sweet and it is so refreshing!

Durian Snow Ice
This tower of snow ice is awesome. Made from Tracka D24 durian pulp, it is so rich with durian flavour and leave a lingering pleasing taste in the mouth.  The soft & fragrant mango cubes, taro cubes and grass jelly completes the indulgence journey.

Chilled Mango Sago Creme with Pomelo
The combination of aromatic and refreshing mango + pomelo makes one astonished at the rich layers of flavours. Enjoy it with the hidden gem  i.e. mango cubes, crunchy sago pearls, poppy pomelo pulp and crystal pearls

Chocolate Lave Cake With Mango Ice Cream

Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream
Lovely presentation that make you adore...for a minute only! When we cut open the warm lava cake, smooth chocolate liquid immediately oozes out. Combine with a spoonful of vanilla/mango ice cream gives you a heavenly texture and taste.

Creme Brulee
With distinctive eggs flavours, this bowl of yellow dessert is amazing...warm and firm on the outer layer but chilled and smooth in the centre. Fresh vanilla seeds certainly enhanced the overall taste.

KUANTAN.....WHAT ELSE BUT FOOD (1)

Almost three hour drive from Kuala Lumpur, my 'partner in crime' and I finally arrived in Kuantan.

Since this was an ad-hoc trip, we did not plan specific place for a good meal. Instead, we simply drove around and made our first stop at Peramu, along Tanjung Lumpur Highway for a  tea break. We stopped at a stall selling nasi dagang (run by a makcik and her son) and got ourselves a packet of rice complete with kari ikan tongkol @ RM2 and three pieces of hot otak-otak for RM1.  Next to this stall, we bought five pcs of fried keropok lekor and 1 fried ball for RM1.

Nasi Dagang (pic on left)
the rice form in a long triangle shape tasted too plain without any coconut concoction but luckily the accompaniment fresh and fragrant fish curry 'rescue' our tastebuds.

Otak-otak (pic on top)
unlike Penang and Muar otak-otak, you'll find this version contained lots of grated coconut mixed with mashed fish meat in chillies paste with strong hint of kayu manis. Tasted overly sweet.

Keropok Lekor & Fried Ball (pic on left)
this is the best keropok lekor I've ever tasted. filled with fresh fish meat instead of flour, soft and chewy! the fried ball enveloped with fish flakes + dessicated coconut was so crispy & addictive.  since it tasted so good, we bought another packet after waited for almost 20 mins along with few makcik who had placed their order earlier.

********************
After 30 minutes of break, we drove further up the highway and saw a stall crowded with people. Well, curiosity kills... After alighted from our car, we walked towards the stall and saw assorted types of kuih muih and fried stuff on the counter.

I got myself a plate and filled it up with a stick of fried prawns, 3 little tapai (wrapped in lotus leaf), 1 piece of boiled keropok lekor, 1 curry puff, 1 pulut panggang,  1 sweet dessert and a glass of ice corn cream drink. All this cost RM6.90.

Instead of pay 1st and eat, this stall adopted 'opposite' way of policy.  No wonder, there were so many customers eating and long queue waiting to take away.

'Corn/Jagung' drink
Filled with fresh coconut milk and creamy corn , but overall too sweet.

On this palate, we enjoy eating:-

 Fried prawns
crunchy and fresh though its oily

Pulut panggang
moist glutinuous rice tucked with spicy dried flaky fish + dessicated coconut.

Tapai in lotus leaf
loaded with sweet tapai juice

NADEJE CAFE- FAMOUS MILLE CREPE

Located at the rooftop of the Dataran Pahlawan in Melaka, you can find the best crepe in this cosy cafe.

After reading several review from blogs, my immediate order over the counter was it's infamous original crepe. Feeling disappointed as was not available (sold off) ,  I picked other alternative i.e Chocolate Crepe @ RM9++.

This French cake is made with 'thousand' layer of crepe staked together and cream are applied on each layers!  The crepe is soft in texture and  chocolate cream is smooth with acceptable 'sugar level'.  I am looking forward to try other flavors in my future trip.

Rum and Raisin Smoothies (RM8.50++)
recommendation from the waiter but its too sweet for my liking

FARLIM SHELL STATION LAKSA CAFE

This coffee shop is located under a multi storey car park and easily to locate the bright and big red signage.

It was my last day in Penang and so it is a must for me to have a hot piping and delicious bowl of Penang Assam Laksa. Well, my best friend took me here, a place which I don't even know the existence of this famous eatery selling the best Assam Laksa and sweet soup in the island.

I was surprised to see all the workers are Indonesian who cooked and run the stall. But how could this be the best assam laksa whipped up by non-local? Actually, the owner is a local chinese (married to an Indonesian lady) who control the quality of the soup. Now, this is making more sense to me.

Boiling soup in a big metal pot!

I usually like my bowl of assam laksa with big pieces of boneless fish meat, lots of bunga kantan, peppermint leaves, pineapple, onion, cucumber, prawns paste and not forgetting chili padi. And this was exactly served to me plus 2 pieces of half size fried fish balls. The soup was so aromatic and even more ump with the hot cut chili padi! Definitely much better than assam laksa sell outside the Kek Lok Si Temple.
The fried spring rolls was crispy and tucked with tasty turnip + carrots filling. Best eaten with chili sauce or dip into the assam laksa soup. I love eating both ways.

Ice kacang (ABC) was awesome and filled with lots of ingredients.

Leng Chee Kang with lots of ingredients

Total food bill was about RM12
