ACADEMY OF PASTRY ARTS MALAYSIA

OVERDUE POST

Few bloggers were invited for a hands on experience making Chocolate Easter Egg in one of the studio inside Academy of Pastry Arts . Under the guidance of Executive Pastry Chef Frédéric Oger, we had fun making the Easter eggs from scratch using dark and white chocolates. It was Chef Frederic's personality i.e humble, friendly yet full of patience which made all of us feel comfy and enjoyable interactive baking course.

We started the whole process by making small and big  shells from white and dark chocolate, spraying colors on egg shells followed by cosmetic and touched up.
  before spraying with colors

Chef carefully sprayed color to each chocolate shells

personally made by me...weird rite! I don't have 'fine' skill

all chics in the garden

It was a well spent Sunday learning and acquiring skills from the expert. And I won't mind coming here again for another baking session!

The Academy offers courses on Certificate in Pastry & Bakery Arts – Full time, Diploma in Patisserie – Full Time, Advanced Diploma in Patisserie – Full Time, Certificate in Cake Making & Designing – Part-time.

RESTORAN O & S

Recently, a friend told us there is a coffee shop in Paramount Garden selling popular Penang hawkers food which  is a pretty good substitute without having us to travel back to the Island to satiate  our cravings. Since he offered to drive us, we were excited and set our foot there during one of the Saturday morning.

The four of us arrived there near to 10 am and most of the tables was taken up. Luckily, a couple had just finished their meal and immediately we reserve the seats.

With so many food stalls to choose (and it was hard for us to decide what to order), we finally opted for different kind of noodles.

Penang Lor Mee (RM5)
Thick and gooey gravy infused with 5 spices powder , garnished with lots of fried onions and topped with prawns & half boiled egg.
This bowl of gem gets my mom’s approval.

Fish Head  & Prawns Noodles (RM8.50)
With the right amount of milk in the soup, few pieces of fried fish meat & fresh prawns, sprinkled with fried garlic, my sister couldn’t complain any further.
Wet Popiah (RM7)
I would prefer this without the salad leaf, shredded cucumber and boiled bean sprout. The original Penang popiah don’t have these greens. No thumb up from all of us

Kuey Teow Th’ng/Soup Flat Rice Noodles (RM5)
Distinctive taste ...exactly like the one I used to eat in Penang. Not only filled with fried garlic oil (my fave), the bouncy fish balls, cut fish cake and soup says it all.

Penang Hokkien Mee/Prawns Mee (RM5)
Authentic..the stock made of prawns shell was spicy and aromatic, garnished with fresh prawns, half boiled egg and crisp deep fried shallots. Add red chili sauce for more kick.

Before we left, my friend ordered 2 packets of Fried Char Kway Teow for lunch. The noodles was fried perfectly resulted in pungent taste but cockles and prawns was overcooked.

Upon recommendation, I got myself a bag of fried banana & yam fritters and fried popiah for RM4. Crunchy and non greasy…went into our tummies before arriving home.

For a total of  RM7, my sister bought these colorful nyonya kuih from one of the stall. Heavenly in taste…soft, not overly sweet and fragrant...goes well with hot coffee & tea.

We miss the Assam Laksa, Curry Mee and Lor Bak… maybe in the next visit.

OKTOBERFEST - I UTAMA

If my friend did not ask me to tag along to this event, I won't even bother at all. Those who love beer and porky meat will enjoy it very much.

A big tent was set up outside the open car park (old wing) at Bandar Utama Shopping Mall. Started at 6pm, we were there on their last day to see and tried out German's beer and food.

Free Giant Mug for every purchased of RM50 beer
3 bottles of Lowenbrau beers filled up the giant mug
every drops of beer incredibly smooth and not bitter at all

 Euro Deli..
goes along well with beers and also wine

Suckling Roasted Pig
Meat Sandwiches

Long Sausages

Most of the porky stuff price ranges from RM5 to RM20. So we had few varieties only. Too much of meat intake is not good for health and also increases cholesterol level.

The above picture (starting from l to r)
roasted pork comes with skin crackling and juicy meat, non oily/greasy yet flavourful meat sandwich, mouth watering sausages infused with aromatic herbs, bread + butter and simple mashed onions.

Live Dance Performance
not only cute & colorful attires, but lovely dance and music too.

The tent was not airy even after the sunset, what more the hanging ventilated fans didn't help much. We were sweating from the time we sat down and left immediately after our dinner. Walking away from the tent, we feel much better in a breezy & cosy air.

TONG PAK FU - 5 STAR DESSERTS (HOT & SNACK)

It is not an easy task to prepare nutritious hot dessert or 'Tong Sui' beneficial for our body.  Emphasis on the ingredients and intricate methods are necessary and coupled with lots of  patience and skills to whip out a bowl of aromatic, smooth and rich yet tasty dessert.

Double Boiled Snow Pear with Dried Citrus Peel
Both the dried citrus peel and snow pears helps to relieve heat from the body, clear phlegm and reduce cough. While the snow fungus contains gelatin and protein assist in improving blood circulation and moisturize skin.

Black Glutinous Rice Cream with Coconut Milk
With right balance of sweetness and richness, it emits a unique black glutinous scent to warm up your tummy.

Black Sesame Cream
Known for its ability to reverse grey hair and anti aging, the crunchy nutty flavored sesame seeds cream was smooth, thick and fragrant
Glutinous Rice Balls with Black Sesame and Peanut Toppings
With a combination of  black sesame powder, glutinous rice flour and water, gives the dough balls a  pleasantly gummy and chewy texture.  Mess it up with the grounded black sesame and peanut  for unforgettable eating experience

Curry Fish Balls
Overdosed with delectable desserts, it was a good ending with something spicy and savoury. I was awe with the curry sauce...pungent, fragrant and fresh and complement well with the bouncy fish balls.

TONG PAK FU - 5 STAR DESSERTS (COLD & WARM)

Nowadays the weather is scorching hot and is unbearable most of the times particulary during the day. One of the many ways to sooth your throat and quench your thirst is by enjoying something icy without burning a hole in your wallet.  Yup, you can enjoy 5 star desserts now at Tong Pak Fu, an award winning dessert house originates from Hong Kong. Currently, there are five outlets in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur.  The latest outlet is located inside Paradigm Mall where few of us were invited to a food tasting session recently.

Tong Pak Fu serves great selection of both hot and cold dessert  but their popular speciality has got to be their Snow Ice which is a shaved ice with delectable fruity flavours. Using high tech water filters and freshly squeezed juices to make real fruit-flavored ice blocks  without adding artificial colours or flavours.

Brand new outlet in Paradigm Mall, Kelana Jaya

Mango Snow Ice
Using imported mangoes from Philippines, this soft snowflakes boast intense and sweet fragrance. Best eaten with chewy grass jelly,  mango pearls and mango cubes. The level of sugar suits my tastebud.
Guava Snow Ice
You'll be enticed with the aroma of sweet and juicy pink guavas. Not overly sweet and it is so refreshing!

Durian Snow Ice
This tower of snow ice is awesome. Made from Tracka D24 durian pulp, it is so rich with durian flavour and leave a lingering pleasing taste in the mouth.  The soft & fragrant mango cubes, taro cubes and grass jelly completes the indulgence journey.

Chilled Mango Sago Creme with Pomelo
The combination of aromatic and refreshing mango + pomelo makes one astonished at the rich layers of flavours. Enjoy it with the hidden gem  i.e. mango cubes, crunchy sago pearls, poppy pomelo pulp and crystal pearls

Chocolate Lave Cake With Mango Ice Cream

Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream
Lovely presentation that make you adore...for a minute only! When we cut open the warm lava cake, smooth chocolate liquid immediately oozes out. Combine with a spoonful of vanilla/mango ice cream gives you a heavenly texture and taste.

Creme Brulee
With distinctive eggs flavours, this bowl of yellow dessert is amazing...warm and firm on the outer layer but chilled and smooth in the centre. Fresh vanilla seeds certainly enhanced the overall taste.
