FOOD HUNT IN YONG PENG, JOHOR (3)

Inspired by STP who turned a simple kompia into yummylicious biscuit with different fillings which made him felt like heaven. I did my own version, ate it and I was in divine (except no.3)

There were a total of five kompias and I ate two of it with a cup of hot coffee...not tantalizing at all. With the remaining three, here is what I did...

Otak-Otak Kompia--- best of the best---
With a box of prawn otak-otak, I cut out two pcs  and pan fried it.  Stuffed it inside together with slices of crunchy cucumber.
Sambal Udang Kering/Dried Prawn Sambal Kompia ---awesome--
from the left over of sambal cooked by my mom, I tucked this pungent and fragrant sambal inside the biscuit.
American Style Kompia ---acceptable---
enveloped inside are 1 pc of turkey ham, fried egg, tomato ring, cut celery leaves, mayonnaise and mozarella cheese...looks similar to burger but doesn't taste like one.

FOOD HUNT IN YONG PENG, JOHOR (2)

Remember, the aunty from Rest Oh Hwu who was kind enough to inform us where to get kompia and here we are inside Eng Hin Bakery/Kedai Membuat Kuih Muih Eng Hin ...next to Da Ma Cai shop

visible red signage

so famous...with newspaper cuttings adorned the wall
workers in action....located just next to the shop selling biscuits
big oven to meet up demand from customers
ready!
besides selling various type of biscuits, Eng Hin also made their own fu zhou noodles.

With so many customers busy filling up their basket, we made a quick pick by buying a packet of kompia (5 pcs) at RM2.50, a box of prawn otak-otak (RM6) and wife biscuit (RM2.80).

FOOD HUNT IN YONG PENG, JOHOR (1)

This is an adhoc food hunt in Yong Peng, Johor since we decided not to drive to Batu Pahat which is quite a distance from Melaka. So, what is this small town famous for?

We drove around and find that there are a lot of shops selling fish balls . We were made known by some locals that fu zhou food is popular here.

Our first stop...
if you can read chinese, then you'll know the name of this stall
assorted type of fishballs in a bowl of clear soup...bouncy and tasty
with a plate of dried wantan noodles top with minced meat... springy and yummy
TOTAL = RM4 for the soup + noodles

********
2nd stop  - Anthony Fish Ball
Upon entering this shop, we were shocked to find flies sitting on greasy tables. Instead of leaving, we decided to order a bowl of mix fishballs.
my bowl.... clear soup but soggy fish balls

TOTAL: RM20 including a plate of braised chicken feet
(no photo taken cos' this dish (+ fish balls) disappointed us)

*********
3rd stop - Restoran Or Hwu
from Anthony Fish Ball, cross the main road and you'll see this eatery at the right hand corner. Specializes in fu zhou dishes and it was packed with only 2 tables left unoccupied.

Once seated, a friendly aunty came to our table and I asked for kompia. She told me they don't sell this biscuit but I can buy it in a nearby shop selling fu zhou biscuits and other local stuff.  (happy mood).

Don't know what to order and upon recommendation by the aunty, we opted for :-
Fried Fuzhou Meat Ball (RM8)
My mom commented that it was sweet and not fragrant unlike the way she prepare it in Hokkien style.  We certainly agree with her.
Fried Hok Chew/Fuzhou Fat Noodles with Seafood (RM10)
Tasted similiar to Hokkien noodles, we enjoyed this plate of slurpy dark noodles filled with wok hei.

We ran out of eating mood after waiting for 30 mins since our remaining order  i.e Fu Zhou/Red Rice Wine Chicken and Stir Fried Choy Sum still yet to arrive. Thus, we cancelled the two dishes and left after paying.
