A WET THAI CAFE

Early last month, my friend treated me to a dinner here. And the reason I am back again is to savour their ever popular Thai Tom Yam which I didn't do so previously.  Unlike weekend, it is so easy to get your seat during weekday. Also ample of parking space right in front of this restaurant.  Our food was served within 30 minutes...very prompted.

two glasses of cold pandan water & a bowl of boiled peanut
the drinks....infused with pandan leave smells yet so refreshing
peanut....very soft
Tab Tim Krob
so colorful and caught my immediate attention.
Thick & fresh coconut concoction filled with eye catching crunchy water chesnuts and strips of jack fruits...certainly enticing!
Seafood Tom Yum...unforgettable
My mom was blown over with this bowl of hot, spicy and sourish soup. And I have to agree with her tastebud.  What makes this soup irresistable are the fresh ingredients and chilies paste combined with fresh seafood.
Fried Pineapple Rice
the sweetness came from small pineapple cubes fried together with fluffy rice and nicely laced with cut sausages and pork floss on the top
Thai BBQ Squid
juicy & chewy on its own or with the tasty side sauce

Bill breakdown (in RM)
Pandan Water = 0.70 x 2
Boiled Peanut = 2.00
Dessert = 5.90
Tom Yum = 8.00
Fried Rice = 9.00
Squid = 18.00

Q-THAI - @ THE WELD

Q-Thai has expanded its wing with a new outlet in The Weld, Kuala Lumpur. In conjunction with its opening, special prices were offered on its ala carte menu.

Since my office is 10 mins walk away from the mall, all of us decided to have our lunch there. When we arrived, the entire restaurant was packed full from the air-cond dining area to al-fresco seating. Luckily, we managed to secure a table within 5 minutes.  Service was fast as there were many foreign waiters taking & serving orders. But my order came last after waited for more than 30 minutes with several reminders to different waiters.

Cold Lime Juice (l), Fresh Lemon with Honey (c) & Hot Lime Juice (r)

Fish Yee Mee Gravy (RM8.90++)

Prawns Kuey Teow with Gravy (RM9.90++)

Wet Butter Sauce Prawn with Rice (RM9.90++)
Butter sauce was tantalizing enough but not the unfreshed prawns. However,  with the help of the side serving i.e aromatic dried  sambal prawn, I managed to wiped off half of portion of the white rice.

AFFORDABLE THAI SET LUNCH

The other day, my colleague and I was craving for Thai food.  We were sandwiched between two restaurant but ultimately we chose to have lunch at The Lodge Paradize which is just right behind our office building. Facing a swimming pool with ocean blueish water view does make our dining experience more relax especially duing this hot weather.

This restaurant offers weekly RM10 value lunch, set lunch and also a-la-carte. They also serve western food apart from Thai & local cuisine.

My colleague had Golden Fried Rice (from the weekly RM10 value lunch).
Look ordinary but actually it's very aromatic cos' the rice was fried using lots of curry leaves + curry powder and tasty too with loads of cut prawns, squids, chicken meat and green.
Fresh Orange Juice (RM7++)

I love trying everything and thus, I had a set of Tom Yam Noodle Set (RM18.90++).

A small portion of seafood tom yam soup consists of
3 fresh prawns, slices of squids, oyster mushrooms + cut of lemon grass. I like the soup with the right balance of sour and spiciness.

A platter of appetizer came in a triangle shape plate with two pieces each of fried prawn cocktail, fried otak otak and fried pandan chicken. What I love most is the fried pandan chicken which was well marinated, juicy and moist. As for the others, I find it acceptable but tad too oily.

Ice Red Rubbies for dessert...
it wasn't sweet nor too sweet but just good enough to clear my throat.

All prices excluding 10% Service Charge and 6% Government Tax  .

TEA BOX CAFE IN NILAI

This is my virgin trip to Nilai and first time having dinner in Tea Box Cafe serving Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia food.  The set up outside the cafe was simple with breezy wind while the inner was kind of dim and dark.  So, definitely I chose to have my meal outside the cafe.

Even though the ambiance is inviting but the service is quite poor.  We asked for the menu thrice from two different server and it took 30 minutes before it was given to us. During that time, only one couple was having their dinner!   As usual, I wanted to order food with 'unfamiliar name' but all the waiter/ess can't explain to us detail of the dishes and have to refer to their main cook. Also, they don't know what is the best seller in the restaurant. This is so unacceptable, right?

Luckily, all the food that we 'simply' order was awesome and cheap too. Save our day!

Cendol Jawa (RM3.50)
Using evaporated milk, this icy colorful dessert is filled with cendol, strips of jackfruit, soft red beans and black jelly. Quite sweet but acceptable after the ice cubes melts.
Ayam Penyet (RM7)
With a plate of white rice, it really goes well  with the blazing hot, tender + aromatic deep fried chicken. Mix it together with pungent sambal and  crunchy tempeh + fried salted fish for more ommph!
Tom Yam Chiang Mai (RM10)
When this arrive on my table, I was full of awe and couldn't get my eyes away  from the red smacking crab and prawns (big smile) and lala and ring squids! Not only the seafood are fresh but the soup made of coconut milk, lemon grass + etc was so tantalizing.

If I know the food here is so good (minus the poor service), I would not cancel order on Nasi Ambeng Udang... but just like the saying goes, Belum cuba belum tahu, lepas cuba hari hari mahu (lol)!

This cafe is located behind Majlis Perbandaran Nilai. If you don't know how to get there, just ask people for direction. As for us, we chanced upon this cafe while driving aimlessly in the town!

LERK THAI!!!

Nowadays, before I decide to have meal in a restaurant, I'll make sure there is a  wi fi facility, so that I can  eat and check emails or chat online at the same time using my mobile phone.

Many times, I passed by Lerk Thai and was impressed with the nice set up and clean ambiance. But unfortunately I did not see any  patron dining there which definitely reflects either the food is no good or too expensive. But you'll never know, if you never try!

After browsing the colorful menu and being told all food are prepared by a Thai Chef, we settled for rice and few dishes and a dessert.

Tom Yam Seafood Clear Soup (RM10)
Pungent taste with strong aroma from cut lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves and lime juice
Filled with fresh prawns, slices of fish meat and squids ....satisfying
Fried Pandan Chicken (RM11)
No pandan fragrant even though chicken meat was moist and tender
Otak Otak (RM10)
Very disappointed....rubbery and tasteless
Red Ruby with Coconut Milk (RM7)
Coconut milk was too watery with eye appealing crunchy water chestnut ....too expensive

Overall, this is not a recommended place to enjoy authentic Thai food or rather 'taste Siamese food'.  We were there for three hours till almost dinner  but  all the table remain empty.

THAI BBQ/STEAMBOAT

This is a post birthday dinner with a friend. I was given the honour to select my choice of food and I opted Rest Q Thai located in Taman Dagang, Ampang cos' I heard people raves so much about the buffet BBQ & Steamboat and can't wait to explore it .

We arrived there early and only two tables was occupied . The restaurant was spacious with clean layout and good ventilation too .

Since it is a buffet, you are free to pick and take as much as you want from various selection of fresh seafood, fishballs, noodles, vegetables and marinated meats for steamboat or BBQ. But be warned that any unconsumed food will be charged RM10 for every 100g. For steamboat, you have the option to choose two types of soup depending on the day you visit this eatery.

our 1st choice of soup...sweet and fragrant without MSG

our 2nd choice of soup...superb and aromatic

assorted types of marinated meats & seafood for barbeque

fishballs in all shapes, flavour and sizes

choices of vegetables, noodles, mushrooms & etc

for our steamboat & barbeque, we opted for greens

meat & seafood....for bbq

fresh seafood for steamboat

more seafood for steamboat

here we go......patiently waiting for food to cook

buffet spread of ready to eat grilled chicken wing, thai salad, fried noodles & rice and etc
'the chicken wing was indeed tantalizing'

and also Thai desserts to end your meal

By the time we finished our dinner, the whole restaurant was fully occupied mostly by families. Comparing this eatery with Restaurant HZT Steamboat/BBQ in Kepong, I prefer the latter with more choices of seafood, buffet spread, desserts and drinks. Do note that Restaurant HZT Steamboat/BBQ has increased their price to RM26.90 nett per person.
