KAYA PUFF, SWISS ROLL & EGG TART

I always notice this aunty selling cakes & tarts in her little push cart at a small alley along Jalan Yap Ah Loy (the last photo gives you an idea on how to get here). For those who usually wait for bus/taxi at a bus stop across the road, you can watch her sleeping (seated) when there is no customer especially in the morning.

For someone who don't really fancy sweet stuff, my curiosity makes me walked towards the cart (while waiting for bus to arrive) and got myself 3 pieces of different cake & tart from her.

She was happy that I snapped photos here & there

Home made Kaya... RM3.50 per container
Egg Tart (RM1.20)
flaky pastry and gooey filling (egg & water only)!
Swiss Roll (RM1.00)
though it is soft & moist enough but
too sweet for my liking
Kaya Puff (RM1.20)
overall high level of sugar content
Hope this pic will help you to find this aunty!

Will I come back again?
Maybe for the egg tart or if she comes out with savoury puff/tart!

  1. Everything looks so good...and they're so cheap! Love egg tarts! How's the swiss roll...compared to the egg cake from Sarawak that I gave you? Like the traditional Foochow mooncake festival biscuits?

  2. The egg cake or kuih bahulu is not as sweet as the swiss roll layered with sweet kaya. 'Jing So Gao' was a hit among us...fragrant and not too sweet.

  3. Hi, love this posting, and yes, I remember Jalan Yap Ah Loy......Used to eat that area very often back in the 70s, 80s.
I remember there was a yong tau fu stall at a coffee shop I used to frequent....
And that guy loves me as I would a lot too.

Hey, must post more KL's pics of such out of the way places, love to see. Been ages since my last trip back.
What about Chow Kit road? Brickfields? Used to have banana leaf at Brickfields often.

Nice pics of that aunty and her cakes. Sure would love to try all.
    Have fun, keep well.

  4. I seldom or totally don't go to Chow Kit cos' no good food there. I heard of nice banana leaf rice in Brickfields and I may drop by there one fine day.

Do come back again, Uncle Lee.

    Cheers Always!

  5. Not into overly sweet stuff myself. I make, others eat :)
Good to know about this stall tho. Can direct folks there should they ask.
