Tomorrow all Hindus will be celebrating Deepavali (also known as Diwali) or Festival of Lights. In Malaysia, it is gazetted by the Government as a one day public holiday. The school children will get an extra day off to enjoy the Deepavali festival.
This festive marks the triumph of good over evil, the victory of light over dark. It's believed that during the Deepavali celebrations, the souls of the deceased return to Earth to visit loved ones and latterns and candles are used to guide them home. Hindu devotees will usually pray at temple and hold an oil lamp.
The one thing which I love about Deepavali is the beautiful kolams (made of coloured rice grains) which you find on the floors in most shopping malls.
