BAH KUT TEH RESTAURANT OFFER FREE WIFI AND ACCEPT VISA MASTERCARD???

IS THIS TRUE???
Usually, a chinese restaurant selling this delicacy only accept cash and don't provide free wifi. Let me unfold the truth......
I could not believe it till I step into Restoran Fong Keow (Pottery) Bah Kut Teh, Klang. I saw an A4 size poster on the wall (next to where I was sitted) mentioning Free wifi and Accept Visa Mastercard (min RM50). A picture tells a thousand words:-))
Actually, we did not plan to eat in this restaurant as we wanted to have BKT in another nearby shop which was closed on that day. The condition of this restaurant which was airy, neat and tidy really caught my eyes to give it a try.

Bah Kut Teh or literally means Pork Rib Tea, originated from Klang. This herbal soup are usually boiled with meaty pork ribs, pork bones and together with herbs and spices for hours. Usually, it is eaten with rice. You'll can easily spot shops/restaurant selling this delicacy everywhere in this small town.

For people who take bah kut teh, a pot of Chinese tea is a must as it is believed the tea will help to dilute the fats consumed from the pork. We opted for a packet of Lam Peng Chrysanthemum Flower Chinese Tea (to help relieve heat and aid digestion la) for RM3.00. While waiting for the food to arrive, we started to make a pot of chinese tea according to our liking…DIY la!

We ordered one claypot of bak kut teh and add in pork ribs/’pai kut’ (RM21) and a plate of Asam Stingray Fish (RM12) cos’ the picture in the menu looks tempting. To complete the meal, we each have a plate of ‘oil’ rice (RM1).....tasted like a plain rice!

I couldn't feel the presence of the herbs in the soup. But luckily, the pig stomach and pork ribs were soft and tender. CAN EAT LA!!!

This is the best dish I've ever tasted. Stingray meat was very fresh. The special home made sauce was also very fragrant which are made up of red chilies, 'bunga kantan' lime leaves and other secret ingredients. Crunchy ladies finger and slices of onions complement this superb dish. THUMBS UP!

If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya, go to the Federal Highway and use the Batu Tiga and Taman Rashna toll plazas. After Taman Rashna toll, keep left and follow the signage to Jalan Batu Tiga Lama. Drive along this road and turn right at the traffic light. Go straight along the road and you will pass a small bridge and turn right immediately. You will see a school to your left along this road. Turn right at the junction and you will see the Fong Keow restaurant. The other two restaurants are located just behind it.

THAI FOOD.... AGAIN???

The Thai food which I ate the other day (refer to my blog on Thai Food Fair) don't really satisfy my taste buds. Maybe the quality is not up to my expectation or the quantity is too little. Since I wanted to eat Thai food again, I went to search for more Thai food in the Internet and came across Nong & Jimmy Thai BBQ Seafood in Taman Cahaya, Ampang in Foodpoi's blog @ http://www.foodpoi.com/ and KY's blog @ http://kyspeaks.com

When we arrived there for dinner, the restaurant was packed with customers (free parking outside the restaurant). Each tables were full with seafood dishes and customers were busy eating and talking at the same time. I considered myself lucky that night cos' there were 1 (only 1) empty table available. As I walked and passed by each tables, I noticed that most of the table ordered cockles, crabs and fried rice.

When the waitress approached us, I already knew what to order without flipping thru the given menu...

  • Basket of BBQ cockles - RM5
**Cockles meat was nicely cooked**. Remember to dip it with the chilies sauce or peanut chilies sauce.

Fried Rice- RM5
At a glance, it doesn't look delicious, rite? Actually there were three fresh medium size prawns hidden in this dish. The rice were fried to the right texture
**very fragrant & tasty**.

Fried Black Pepper Crabs - RM25

**Crab meat was fresh but **unfortunately I dislike the taste of this dish cos' it's **not fried with black pepper **. There were lots of crunched peanuts and it tasted so sweet. I should have order BBQ Crab.

FRIED 'KANG KONG' - RM9
**Nothing to shout about this dish!** It's a plain green vege fried with pounded red chilies but without any dried shrimps or prawns .

A glass of 'cincau'/black jelly drink and lime juice cost RM2.50. Eat there again or a revisit??? No, I don't think so........

THAI FOOD FAIR

YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRAVEL ALL THE WAY TO THAILAND TO EAT THAI FOOD!!!
I'm sure most of you agree with this statement. Now, you don't even have to plan a trip or spend money on air ticket to Thailand to indulge Thai delicacies.
For those of you who crave for cheap and delicious Thai food (excluding exquisite Thai Restaurant), head to Selayang Mall (ground floor) or The Store, Pandah Indah (entrance). Every thing is ... RM5.. per order la!!!

If you happen to be in any of this shopping mall , do drop by at the stall and 'look see, look see' at the various mouth watering food (whether got any flies or other insect 'savouring the food') and most importantly, the person who prepares the food (whether he/she is 'tooth picking' or 'digging nose' ). This annoying behaviour can been seen when there is lesser/no customer. But rest assured, the seller usually wear disposal plastic hand glove when preparing food .
The good thing is the food are serves using DISPOSAL styrofoam bowl/box, wood chopstick, plastic spoon and fork. SO, it's still safe and clean to eat la!!!
When order food or pay bill , do speak in Bahasa Malaysia cos' most of them are unable to understand English la!!!

THAI MANGO PULUT WITH COCONUT MILK /'SANTAN'

This dessert is kinda of too sweet for my liking due to 'too' much pandan 'santan'. However, the steamed glutinous rice (plain and pandan leave flavour) was moist and soft. Mango was sweet and juicy. Blend well with this dessert. LIKE LA!!!
TOM YAM NOODLES
There are few types of noodles available to suit your taste buds namely 'lai fun', bee hoon, mee & koay teow. I opted for 'lai fun' commonly served in Assam Laksa and it was good. The soup tasted like ' Maggi Tom Yam bee hoon'. This bowl of noodle came with two fresh prawns (medium size), rings of white cuttlefish/'sotong', cut crabsticks, slices of fish ball and 'kang kong' vegetables. GOOD LA!!!

FRIED SHRIMPS
The shrimps are tasty but not crunchy (don't be fool by the pic), maybe they added lots of MSG. Overall, SO, SO LA!

FEEL LIKE BAKING......

I feel like baking....baking what? Well, it's gonna be Double Chocolate cup cakes. Since I don't fancy cream, I did not decorate it with chocolate gancahe and cream cheese. But I added in melted chocolate chips.......

So, where did I get this recipe??? It's non other than Sunny Yaw of BBO who posted this recipe @ http://bigboysrecipe.blogspot.com/2007/10/double-chocolat-cupcake.html
I love his recipes because all the ingredients are easily available and most importantly, baking steps are easy to follow without any hassle.

To tell you the truth, this is the 2nd time I'm baking cup cakes after received compliments from family and friend. So, Here'......s the AFTER EFFECT!!!

Do you want to have a bite?

FAMOUS FISH HEAD BEE HOON

For those who are staying in Kuala Lumpur, you won't miss Jalan Alor flooded with hawker food stalls housed in coffee shops especially during lunch or dinner till late supper. Do any of you fancy Fish Head Bee Hoon ? If you do, please continue to read........

There is a Famous Fish Head Bee Hoon stall in Jalan Alor or Choy Kay, Tall Guy Famous Fish Head Bee Hoon... (literally translated from the chinese wording). This stall operates from a coffee shop which is located next to Charn Kee Tasty Corner.

For a Penangnite like me, I usually order 'chor'/fat bee hoon and without milk. Served in a medium size bowl are fried fish head/meat garnished with soft white taufu, slices of ginger, salted vegetables, tomatoes, chopped parsley, spring onions & fried garlics. I always asked for more fried garlics, chopped parsley and spring onions cos' it' adds more 'ummph' to the soup which are boiled with fresh fish bones minus MSG. It is served with cut chilies or sambal chilies.RM5.50 per bowl . I add fish stomach and pay extra RM2.50....HO LIAO!

This stall is very packed during lunch time especially from 12.30 pm onwards. So my advice is either you go there for breakfast (no crowd at all and free ample parking at the side of the road) OR arrive there before lunch in order to get seat(s) and find parking.

Their other speacilities are curry mee (wet/dry version), tom yam, fish paste noodles and etc.
You can also 'ta pau'/take away but make sure you place order earlier before you settle down or else you will need to wait for another 30 mins-1 hour.

PAPA JOHNS

One evening of out a sudden, a colleague of mine (not a food lover) suddenly proposed that we have pizza for dinner. I asked her whether is it Pizza Hut or Domino? Her answer was: NO! Let's makan pizza else where. Since I've been wanting to try out Papa Johns' in Berjaya Times Square , I told her about this new restaurant and she immediately agreed to my suggestion.

When we arrived Papa Johns' at about 6.15 pm, there were only 3 customers. We were taken aback and skeptical as whether to eat or leave the restaurant. Before we can make our decision, a waitress approached us with a menu. After browsing the menu, we opted for 6" Super Papa's Pizza, Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wings, Seafood Deluxe Spaghetti, Mushroom Soup, Snow Ball Ice Cream and ice water to quench our thirst.

In less than 5 minutes, the waitress came back with a bill amounted to RM55.35 (including 10% service charge + 0.60 cents ice water -small glass & non refillable) . Both of us looked at each other and said 'Wow! We have to Pay 1st ,Then Eat Later???? NO! NO! NO! The waitress told us that the bill was meant to be put on the table and make it easier for customer to pay after dining.

MUSHROOM SOUP - RM4.90
Soup texture was very rich with cream and abundance of chopped button mushrooms and herbs. I would prefer the soup to be slightly diluted...maybe add 3/4 cup of water!!! OKLA

SWEET & SPICY BBQ CHICKEN WINGS - RM8
The chicken wings and drumsticks meat were tender and juicy. As you eat, you can smell and taste the sweetness and spiciness... and you want it more.....DELICIOUS!

6" SUPER PAPA'S PIZZA - RM11.20
This is the most satisfying pizza I ever had. A lot of beef pepperoni slices, chicken sausages topped with mushrooms, green pepper, onions and black olive. Also served with 2 cute Mexican green chilies and a yellow sauce (I dunno, what it's called) YUMMY!

BAKED SPAGHETTI SEAFOOD DELUXE -RM12.90
When this food arrives at our table, we thought it was another pizza which we did not order. However, upon 'digging' it with a fork, we realised that it was baked spaghetti which we ordered earlier. Melted Mozzarella cheese almost covered up the entire dish with strips of crab sticks, green peppers, onions and shredded tuna...but where is the shrimps???? I would prefer more sauce and softer spaghetti . HO CHIAK!

SNOW BALL - RM3.90
We opted for chocolate and strawberry ice cream flavor. Each glass are filled with fruit cocktail (at the bottom) topped with an ice cream covered with sauce (strawberry/chocolate), cream and a red cherry.

NOTE: After we started sipping our soup in least than 20 minutes, crowd started to built up. Before we leave the restaurant, all the tables were filled up with few customers queing up at the entrance.....so what you think???

DELICIOUS AND CHEAP CURRY FISH HEAD

I'm known as a person who love to try anything and everything ( I, mean foodntravella)! For me, never try never know, till u tried then baru know!

On Wesak Day, my friend and I went to a Buddhist temple in Sentul to fulfill our role as devotees (prayla). Since it was early (abt 1130am) and very feeling hungry, we decided to have a cheap, quick and sedap lunch (got such a food meh?). Got la, the restaurant is located about 5 minutes walk from the temple.

As we entered Restoran Makanan Laut Zhen Liew Xiang, there were no one except both of us. (you must be wondering y?... sure no business and tak sedap, that's why no customer!) No! No! No! You are wrong! Almost half an hour after we started to eat, the restaurant was packed with at least 20 customers.

So what we ordered? As you can see from the caption, we ate curry fish headla served in a piping hot claypot with a plate of rice for each of us. When this dish was served, we can't resist the beautiful colour and aroma of the curry and of course start to 'attack la'. The red snapper meat was cooked to perfection, gravy tickness was just right (but I prefer it to be more spicy) and lots of curry leaves, crunchy ladies fingers and tau pok (minus brinjal cos we don't like it).Yummy! Yummy!

How much we paid? RM20 only (including rice @ RM1 per plate)! We did not order drink cos' we were each given a bottle of mineral water when we prayed at the temple earlier.

This restaurant also serves other mouth watering dishes. It is usually crowded with families during weekend lunch/dinner. Their service is attentive and friendly.

Where is it located? Here's the address and contact details...
